WHATEVER IS NOBLE

Philippians 4:8;

Phil 4:8 - Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

σεμνός - semnos (sem-nos’) - derived from sébomai, "to revere, be in awe"

Translated as: reverend, venerable, serious, honorable, grave, serious, dignified, noble -weighty, deeply respected because viewed as majestic (having "gravity"); grave.

Description of Godly or lofty things -

Used in 1 Timothy 3:8,11 to describe what is expected of deacons and their wives-

1 Timothy 3:8-13 - In the same way, deacons are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. 9 They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.

11 In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.

12 A deacon must be faithful to his wife and must manage his children and his household well. 13 Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

Used in Titus 2:2 to describe what is what Titus is to teach…

Titus 2:2-3, 6-8 - Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good… Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. 7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
