6. Let the Joy Shine Out - Psalm 47; Proverbs 17:22
Let the joy out - joy and smiles - Psalm 47; Proverbs 17:22
Psalm 47:1-9 - Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.... (Read the rest of the chapter. It is good!)
Proverbs 17:22 - A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
I was visiting the hospital one day when I doctor came in. His patient was dying but was in a very good frame of mind. The doctor asked him what put him in a better mood. The man looked up and pointed his finger at me... "Preacher brought some good medicine."
We often underestimate just how much light shines when we have God's joy in our heart. We live in a world that can be cold, harsh, and depressing at times. Sometimes it can be overwhelming and crush our spirit and our bones. But the joy of the Lord is strength. It's good medicine that the world needs. It is a light or beacon that draws people to Him. And sometimes that light starts with just a smile.
When people come to church for the first time they want to see joy. They want to experience real joy. After all, we are sinners saved by God's grace through Jesus Christ our Lord! If that don't bring joy and light your fire than your wood is wet!!!
Now I have to admit that I don't always feel joyful. I can sometimes be a moody cuss. So I have to work on it by stoking the heart with God's word and his praise. I have to count his blessings and let Satan know that he is not going to rob me of this light.. this joy. I don't want this joy to be fake. I don't want this light to be artificial. I want the true joy of the Lord shining out of my life.
May God bless you today as you shine the light with joy and a beautiful smile. God loves you and so do I.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Father of Light, Shine on me! Let your joy flood every aspect of my life that it may be a light that draws people to you. In the name of Jesus I bow before you with this prayer of praise and joy. AMEN!
