Water, Water Everywhere

Funny story: We were all working hard at various assigned jobs during workday at church. Things were progressing very well and many of the jobs were getting accomplished with speed and diligence. The ladies had finished cleaning out the baptistry and they told me it was ready to be filled. “No Problem,” I said and went right to work.

It takes several hours to fill the baptistry so I left it running while I went out to clean up in the parking lot. About an hour later, Blake came out to tell me that there was water dripping in the utility room downstairs below the baptistry. I dropped what I was doing and ran into the church with Blake.

Sure enough, water was leaking from the old thermostat valve that wasn’t used anymore. Blake though it might be a seal so I put my hand on the thermostat and it came off in my hand! The pipe had corroded to the point that it just broke off.

Water was pouring out of the hole as I was trying to frantically put the valve back. When that didn’t work I tried putting a small sauce pan under it but that filled up in seconds. Blake did some fast thinking and reached inside and covered the hole stopping the water. I set the valve down and then put my finger over the hole so Blake could come out. There was water everywhere.

Blake turned on the drain so we could get the water down below the hole. It takes a while to drain the baptistry so Blake left me there with my thumb covering the hole while he went to Lowes Hardware to get something to fix it. I sat there like the little boy with his finger in the dyke for what seemed like hours until the water got low enough that I no longer needed to cover the hole.

My thumbs were sore and my pants and shirt were a bit damp. Blake returned with no luck. So we finished draining the baptistry and cleaned up the mess.

We have it sorted out now and the Baptistry will be filled and working in time for revival. After this, I am praying we get lots of use from it this revival season!

In this moment it reminded me of Proverbs 15:13 which says, "A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, but with a heartache comes depression." You see, we have a choice to make. We can either let the stress of the moments get us down and Satan rob or joy or we can laugh at the silliness of the situations and come out with a small on our faces praising God that he saw us through it. It's your choice.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Lord, You are the Lord of Joy and Laughter. Why so downcast, Oh my soul? Put your trust in God! Help me to take lemons and make lemonade to quench the thirst of the people! In Jesus name, AMEN!
