8 Speak Truth - Psalm 15:1-3
8. Speak truth. Balance it with love. Psalm 15:1-3
Psalm 15:1-3 -Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?
Who may live on your holy mountain?
The one whose walk is blameless,
who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from their heart;
whose tongue utters no slander,
who does no wrong to a neighbor,
and casts no slur on others
We live in a world where people bend and stretch the truth all the time. Facts are manipulated to favor whatever point is trying to be proven or whatever candidate needs your vote. It's hard to know exactly where the truth lies today. Truth is subjective in the world today. Even ObiWan spoke the truth "from a certain point of view."
Satan is a "liar and the Father of lies." And we often think of the red dude with an attitude trying to seduce people to the dark side with lies. But the devil is sneaky and puts just enough truth in his tales to make you believe it or want it to be true. He did this with Eve in the Garden and Jesus in the wilderness and he continues it today.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (Jn 14:6). He is absolute truth. There is no deception. There is no situational ethics. There is just the truth and an invitation to join him.
As shining stars we need to let the light of truth shine out. The world finds people who tell the truth refreshing... they don't know how to handle it. They cock their head when someone owns up to their own mistakes instead of casting the blame. They look long into the face of someone who shares the truth even when it hurts the one telling it. They shake their heads when someone states what others are afraid to say.
Unfortunately, when the truth is spoke today it is often used as a weapon. Some gather and store up bits of truth to use as bombs to throw out in an argument or when it becomes useful for their purpose. Truth must be spoken out of love and never used to harm or take advantage.
May God bless you today as you speak truth, life, and light into the lives of others. May they see the truth of God in you and seek the truth for themselves.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear God; When I think of your attributes I rarely think of truth. My world is filled with deception and viewpoints that shift like the sand. I know that when I stand on your word that I am standing on solid rock...truth! Thank you for Jesus bringing the truth and helping us to learn how to fight Satan's deceptions with your Word and your Spirit. Thank you for your love which speaks truth into my life. In Jesus' name, AMEN!
