7. Walk as Children of Light - Please Him - Ephesians 5:8-10
Remember your aim is to please the Lord, not man. Realize that Christ has already determined your value - now you are free from the need to please. - Ephesians 5:8-10
Ephesians 5:8-10 - For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.
When you are a minister you often times end up in the trap of being a people pleaser. We hear the words of the Apostle Paul echoing in our ears "...I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some"( 1 Co 9:22) and for some reason our brain twist that around to trying to make everyone happy. The problem is that you can never please everyone.
This problem is not just for ministers. We are wired to want to be accepted by others so we sometimes blow in the wind depending on who we are with at the time. I have a friend who was telling me the other day that she has three bosses that all want different things out of her... the problem is that some of their wishes counterman the other bosses. Some people have become so cynical about pleasing others that they stop trying to please others at all.
One way that you can let the light of Jesus shine through your life is by first and foremost pleasing God and not man. Jesus has already determined your value and it is not based on anything you have done. Jesus loves you and died for you "while you we were yet sinners"... anything but pretty. It is not by the work of your hands that he loves you but buy the work of his hands that were nailed to a cross for you.
You are free from people-pleasing! So let his light shine. Go the extra mile not because you want to please someone but because you want to please the Lord. Turn the other cheek not because you want to avoid a fight with someone but because you want to please Jesus. When someone wants a minute of your time give them more because that makes Jesus happy.
Your light shines bright when you let it shine for Jesus. Give him the glory and praise all day long. May God bless you as you seek to please the Lord first and foremost.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Father Above; You are loving and kind. Your grace has found me. You fill my day with light and life. There are sometimes that I want to be accepted and appreciated by others, Lord. Help me to put that desire toward pleasing you and living as a child of light. Help me to bear fruit of light. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
