Fear is the number one reason why people don’t share their faith. The fear of rejection. The fear of ridicule. The fear of failure. The fear of bodily injury. The fear of loss of friendship. The fear of not knowing what to say. The fear of not knowing how a person will respond. The fear of trying something new and unknown. The fear of not being able to answer a person's questions. The fear of intruding into the private areas of people's lives. The fear that your fears will show. The fear that you will say something wrong. The fear of getting out of your comfort zone.
It shouldn't surprise us that fear is the number one reason. Fear is Satan's biggest tool in the world today. One doesn't have to but turn on the news to see Satan at work. One of the worst byproducts of the shooting in PA yesterday is the atmosphere of fear he created. It's already bad enough that you don't see kids riding bikes and playing on playgrounds anymore but the idea that you can't even be safe at a church or synagogue... well, that's Satan using fear to distract us.
In a recent on-line survey of why people don’t share their faith, Rosanne Peroldo said, “Afraid of rejection, we have to remember that they are not rejecting us but Christ.” Rosanne is right. Jesus said that we should not be afraid of rejection because people are rejecting Him first.
But as Christians we are not to be dominated by fear. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) says, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." Love overcomes fear because love is from God. When we love God we can rely on him to do great things in our lives and for us.
Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." A friend of mine who is going through a tremendous affliction quoted this verse and said, "I can't wait to find out what the good is. I may not find out in this lifetime but I trust that God is doing something tremendous." Just that testimony alone worked some "good" in my life.
Don't let Satan win. Don't give in to fear and hate. God is love. God is light. Testify to God's goodness and the grace that he has given to us in Jesus Christ!
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Father of Light, Thank you for shining your light into the darkness. Thank you for you love which drives away all fear. Help me to testify to your goodness. Help me to show love to overcome the fear that is in this world. Remind me of the love that you have shown in your Son, Jesus, who died for my sins that I may live without fear. It is in his name that I come before you confidently in prayer, AMEN!
