REASONS WHY PEOPLE DON'T SHARE THEIR FAITH

#10. Ridiculed / Scorned - Some people are afraid to put their faith out there because they will be ridiculed or scorned. They are afraid that they will lose friends. They are afraid that they will be made the butt of jokes. And this could very well happen.

Where it is true that there are always loud mouths and nah-sayers, in my case, I have found that most people who reject what I have just walk away or avoid me. I don’t take it that they are rejecting me. They have rejected Jesus… and ultimately they have rejected God.

Having said that though, there are those who like to bad mouth the church...especially on social media. Some of them are disgruntled former members and some are from outside the church that just don't like church. The saddest part are that there are those who are members of the church that spout off about the church, the preacher, the leaders, and each other without regard for who they hurt or the image they are presenting to the world.

You can't avoid negative talk, rejection, scorn, and ridicule. You are wearing Jesus' name so you have a target printed on your back.

Jesus sent out 72 followers to be evangelist into all the towns where he planned to go. He told them, “I am sending you out like lambs among wolves” (Luke 10:3). After giving them instructions he then said, “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me” (Luke 10:16).

Most Christians are big hearted people. We don’t like to be rejected. We may even wonder why. But Jesus tells us that they are not rejecting us but him…and ultimately God. We don’t need to take it personal.

Fear of rejection or scorn should never be a reason to keep our faith in a quiet corner of our lives. When we do, we ourselves are rejecting Jesus. We are ashamed of him. We are ashamed about that part of our life when Jesus should be the whole part of our life. Paul boldly declared, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith” (Ro 1:16-17).

Jesus Christ said, “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven" (Matthew 10:32-33 NIV).

PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear God Above, I praise you for the gift of salvation, abundant life, and the promise of eternal life with you in heaven. I thank you for sending Jesus to die in my place and for raising him from the dead to show victory over death and sin. I ask that you will help me not to be ashamed or in fear of rejection but to boldly proclaim the good news in both word and deed. In the name of Jesus, AMEN.
