18. Eat right - 1 Corinthians 10:31
1 Corinthians 10:31 -So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
I believe that one of the reasons so many of us Christians in the USA have problems with stress, illness, and our spiritual walk is that we have been eating unhealthy. I remember a missionary from India who came to speak at the church. One of the people asked the missionary what was the chief problem in the church today. The missionary without missing a beat said, “Too many covered dish meals.” He went on to say that he felt like the church has become tired, lazy, and fat. and as a result it has affected every area of service and doctrine. I had to admire his honesty since his over half of his support came from the church he where he was speaking.
When we do not eat right and exercise we become physically overweight. When we gain weight it puts extra strain on our joints which start to hurt. When we start to hurt we sit around more. When we sit around more we gain even more weight. So the cycle continues until we have become sedentary, in other words, tired, lazy, and fat.
This doesn’t just effect us physically. It effects our minds and our hearts. When that happens it begins to effect us spiritually. We do less at church. We serve less in our community. And our witness for Christ is diminished.
When we are overweight and cannot do things like we used to do them we can become overstressed. We begin to internalize more and more because there is less that we can do about them physically.
If you want to feel better about yourself and relieve some of the stress in you life you need to get active and eat healthier foods. Just look at the difference a healthy diet and spiritual steadfastness made for Daniel and his friends (Daniel 1). It can do miracles for you too.
May God bless you today as you change your attitude about food and exercise. Get up and seize the day in the name of Jesus Christ!
PRAYER THOUGHT: Most Gracious Heavenly Father; I praise you for all you have made and have done for me. I ask right now that you help me to make better choices and to get up and move more. You are my God and king. Give me the strength, the energy, the drive to work hard in your kingdom. In Jesus precious name I pray, AMEN!
