11. Separate Worries from Concerns -1 Peter 5:7
1 Peter 5:7 - Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
It often helps reduce or remove stress when you learn the difference between worries and concerns. A concern is a situation that develops that may or may not be beyond your control. The first step is to pray and find out what God would have you do and to let go of the situation into his care. Be open to his leading to prompt you into action. But if the situation is totally beyond your control it can easily become a worry. You must leave it at the throne of God and trust in him to do something about it.
I am often guilty of giving something to God and then picking it back up and worrying about it. That is not trust in God. That is taking a concern and allowing it to become worry.
This last week a nasty stomach bug entered our house. It spread through the whole family hitting several of us more than once. I sat up and worried because I was afraid of missing out on preaching Sunday. I couldn’t sleep and I could not rest. I also worried that even if I felt better I would carry the bug to one of the kids at church or even one of our elderly. But once I released those concerns to God I could feel the stress melt away and I finally got some much needed rest.
May God bless you as you separate your concerns and worries. Throw those worries out the window because God cares for you.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Jehovah Rapha, You are the God that heals. I thank you for helping us through this time of illness and ask for your blessings as we continue to rest and recuperate. Help us to rely on you and cast all our worries on you. Thank you for Jesus Christ, my Savior, my Lord, my friend. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN!
