6. Simplify and Organize Your life -Acts 17:26
Acts 17:26 -From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.
If you are looking for a verse in the Bible that says you need to organize and simplify your life you probably won’t find anything. But our God is a god of order. He is the one who put the world in order. He appointed seasons and times. He even commanded that we worship in and orderly manner (1 Co 14:26-40). Paul says in these verses “God is not a God of disorder…” Since God is this way I am sure he approves of those whose lives are not disordered and too complicated.
Most of us realize that we have too much clutter and way too busy of schedules. I posted a picture with my blog yesterday and someone messaged me to ask me if that was really my desk. The answer is yes and no. Yes, my desk is almost always cluttered, and No, the mess in the picture was staged…but not by much!
Not only do I deal with clutter but like most of you, I also deal with busyness. Someone wise once asked me “do you control your schedule or does your schedule control you?” Sometimes I get so busy that I get frustrated when someone tries to give me something else to do.
The problem is doing something about it. We need to deal with the problem but often what we do is ignore the mess and keep on struggling with a full schedule and “to do” list. As I type this blog my schedule has already changed today so I just punt somethings down the road and hope I get to it later.
I believe the starting place is always prayer. I believe we should ask God to help us be orderly and to be wise about our schedule. It might not hurt to ask him to “interrupt your day” with divine inspiration.
Another key to organizing is understanding that you will probably only do about 20 percent of what you want to accomplish today. The thing to do is to make sure you pick the right things that need to be accomplished. Today, I am going to tackle this desk before I move on to the other things that need done. No matter how much I accomplish later I will still have a sense of accomplishment as I look at my clean desk.
Another key is to “Let Go”. Sometimes you have to let go of things that you haven’t used int the last two years. Sometimes you have to let go of things you are doing that aren’t productive. Sometimes you have to let go of relationships that are dragging you down. Sometimes you have to let go of the past and mementos of those times and take full advantage of the moment you are in.
I hope this has been a little helpful to you. Now clean your desk and seize the day! May God bless you as you put his order to your life.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear God; You made life out of the chaos of a void and formless earth. You ordered the the galaxies and set the times and the seasons. You ordered the lives of people by the beating of the drum in our chest. You are God of order. Help me to put my life in order and simplify. Give me wisdom to know and do the right things. Give me peace and rest from my burdens. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
