21. Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day -Psalm 119:28
Psalm 119:28 - My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.
One of the biggest determent to daily Bible reading is getting discouraged when you get behind. Sometimes you miss a day, or two, because of circumstances beyond your control and then it cascades out of control until you are so far behind you just want to give up. DON'T DO IT!
Listen. We all have those days when our schedule goes out of control. Don't beat yourself up. Forgive yourself, pick up the next day, and keep moving.
You won't believe how hard this can be for me. I am a project orient person. I get really discouraged when my day doesn't go as I planned. I used to pray, "Lord, interrupt my day." But he did and it frustrated me so I don't do it as much as I should.
Just because you miss a day doesn't mean you are a failure. It happens. One of the things I tell my church members is that if you miss a day on the chart just move on and then fill in the back days when you get some extra time. Just keep moving and striving to read as often as you can.
One of the reasons I say this is that I had to catch up two days of reading last week. God interrupted my day today as I had to babysit. Believe it or not I was able to catch up my Bible reading during nap time.
I had a professor in college who used to say, "Keep on Keeping on!" I believe that is what we have to do in our daily Bible reading. May God bless you today as you find some time to read his precious word.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Lord and Savior; I praise you for your divine timing and your grace. Your word brings meaning and life to my soul. Help me to keep going even when I fall behind. Bless the reading of the word and help me to absorb all you have for me. In Jesus' name, AMEN!
