14. Sing the Bible - Psalm 119:54
Psalm 119:54 -Your decrees are the theme of my song, wherever I lodge.
When I read Psalm 119:54 I can't help think of the old Disney classic of Snow White. There are two songs that are stuck in my mind: "Whistle While You" Work and "Hi Ho". If I was one of the seven dwarfs I would probably want to sing through the day too.
When I was young I needed some help keeping memory verses in my head. I had a teacher at church that taught us memory verses by singing them to common music like "Mary Had A Little Lamb" or "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." As a teen I learned a lot of praise songs were actually Psalms or other verses put to music. Music really does help us remember memory verses as well as help us remember and meditate on what we have read.
The Psalmist also said, "Sing a new song unto the Lord". I believe that God loves to hear us sing. He especially appreciates it when our love for him is so great that we spontaneously break out in a song that is just for him.
There are many ways for you to sing the Bible. You can pick a praise song, hymn, or worship song and sing it along with your Bible reading. You could pick a tune and actually sing the Bible to that tune. You could just make up a tune and instead of reading just sing it. You can also pick out a key verse and sing it to your own tune...unique and original.
May God bless you today as you sing a new song unto him. May he continue to fill your heart with his word and his song.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Lord; You have put a song in my heart when I accepted Jesus as my savior. My heart rings with the melody of your Holy Word. Help me to open my mouth and let that song out loud and strong. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
