10. Meditate On The Word - Psalm 119:97
Psalm 119:97 - Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.
Have you ever had something on your mind all day long? I'm not talking about your worries or anxieties. I'm not even talking about some guy or gal that you are head over heals over. I'm talking about some idea or concept that you focus on or contemplate for a period of time.
Bible Study is step process: Reading the Bible is the first step. That is where you explore the truth God has revealed. Meditating on God's Word for your life is the second step. It contains a discovery of that truth in how it relates to your life with Jesus. Application is the third step. That is where we formulate a plan and put in into action.
Meditation is thinking deep thoughts, focusing, reflecting, giving some consideration, to ponder, to muse, to deliberate, ti ruminate, chew the cud, brood, mull something over, and contemplate. Now we're talking. Meditating on God's word is like letting coffee brew on the back burner all day long until it is strong and eye-opening.
The other day I read from Matthew 1:18-25. These verse share about Joseph's dream that he had when he was considering sending Mary away and secretly divorcing her. Gabriel appears in a dream to him and suddenly everything is okay. Why? Why did Gabriel come to him in a dream when he appeared to Zachariah and Mary in person?
That was what I pondered on the rest of the day. I have a lot of dreams, some pretty weird ones too. I don't recall any dream making a difference in a decision I had to make. Most dreams fade quickly too.
The answer came to me later in the day. The key to this passage is verse 19 where it says that he "was faithful to the law." You see, Joseph was raised to know his lineage, heritage, and the law. He probably understood that he was named after the Joseph in Genesis. Both of them also had a father named Jacob. Joseph from the Old Testament was a dreamer and the interpreter of dreams. When Gabriel appeared in a dream to Joseph it was a confirmation to Joseph that God was in the whole thing from beginning to end. And as always, Joseph responded to God with obedience.
The thrill of having a piece of the puzzle revealed to me was thrilling. I hope that you too will find it exciting to meditate on your Bible reading. May God bless you as you meditate on his word today.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Lord; Thank you for your word and the guiding of your Spirit. I praise you for providing for all my physical and spiritual needs. I want to meditate on your word always. In Jesus' Name, AMEN!
