31 Ways To Let Your Light Shine!
22. Use social media wisely - 1 Peter 2:4-10
1 Peter 2:4.10 -...But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;...
It is so easy to get on FB or one of the other social media outlets and just rant. In fact, some of the News medias even have places for you to comment under their internet stories. Every once in a while I see them use these comments on TV and I wonder what opinion even has to do with reporting the news... but then I can fall into the same trap of ranting about their ranting! It's so easy to do.
Far be it from me that I should tell you what to post and what not to post. It is your opinion and you have a right to express it. But as Christians our responsibility to Christ tempers our rights and freedoms. Sometimes we have to sacrifice our rights to the greater good of forwarding the good news message of Jesus.
Now I'm not telling you that you have to start putting Christian mims up on your wall or sharing "the verse of the day". I am simply saying that as His royal priesthood and holy nation that we should reflect his values.
I saw a post from someone the other day that was talking about her Christian lifestyle. There was a lot of profanity and statements that are counter to God's word. I know that I can be sensitive to that kind of thing. But If I see the inconsistency of the profession of faith than so do others. As Christians, we are to be in the world but not of the world.
I post on FB because I find that it is a useful tool in my personal, professional, and Christian life. My mother and I often chat on messenger in the morning over a cup of coffee. I am able to keep up with friends from high school, college, and from various place that I have lived. I have even had the opportunity to privately counsel with many people all around the world. I find that it is a very useful tool for sharing my faith. And I did it all from my humble office in West Jefferson, NC.
May God bless you today as you shine the light through your use of social media.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Oh God; You alone are worthy of my praise. You are the source of my help and my rock in times of trouble. Why do I rant? Why do I rave? Why do I want my comments to be "liked" by others. Help me to seek your approval alone in what I say and do. Help me to use every tool available to share the light of your love and salvation. In Jesus' name, AMEN!
