16. Putting yourself out there - Mt 5:1
Matthew 5:16 - In the same way, let your light so shine before others that they will see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
I once had a friend tell me that he was "an undercover Christian". He made it sound like he was a spy who was kickin butt and taking names. He made the covert Christian lifestyle sound good.
The first problem is that God doesn't need spies. He already knows the enemy and his strongholds. He knows who is sinning and who is faithfully walking in the light. Even if he did need spies he didn't call us to fill that role.
The second problem is that God doesn't need soldiers to fight his battles. God has already won the war when Christ died on the cross. Yes, he does tell us to put on his holy armor. But we put on this armor so that we can "STAND". That's right. God wants us to dress in this defensive armor and just stand our ground... no retreat... no surrender. He doesn't ask us to do anything but to stand firm and watch the enemy turn and run. That's how God kicks Satan's butt.
What God does ask us to do is shine light into the world. That's why he tells us put on the armor of light. We are strangers in a strangeland, sojourning merchants selling the good news, ambassadors of the heavenly kingdom representing God, and farmers spreading the seed of the gospel. We are not spies. The only way for light to be covert in darkness is to put out the light.
People need to see the light of Jesus shining in the darkness. Are you ready to put yourself out there?
May God bless you today as you shine in the darkness.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Almighty God; You are powerful beyond all comprehension. Your heavenly host stand ready for your every need. You have for me to be a spy or a super soldier. Help me stand firm in the armor of light so that the enemy will be shaken by how you have transformed my life by your power and your light. Thank you for Jesus in whose name I pray, AMEN!
