14. Show a genuine interest in others and get to know them - Galatians 6:10
Galatians 6:10 - So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
Most people who know me realize that I have trouble remembering names and faces. Sometimes It takes me a while to learn the names of new people I meet. Then there are those people who I should know and I can't remember their names. It has caused me embarrassment on a number of occasions.
I took a special workshop while I was in college to help me remember names and faces. The first session was informative but during the second session the workshop leader tested us to see what we had learned. Everyone did well but me. The workshop leader told me after the third session that I didn't need to come to the fourth and fifth session because some people just can't get it! Talk about humiliation!!!
But there is one thing that I am learning that helps even in my mid-50's. If you take time to show genuine interest and get to know the person then the names sticks better. That's because the person is no longer a casual acquaintance but is now a friend. And friends remember.
I have also learned that your light shines bright for the Lord when you show an interest in others and concern for them. When you ask, "How is your son doing?" or "How's the arthritis today?" people know you are aware of what's happening in their life and that you have been listening and are concerned. When you call and say, "I was just thinking about you...how are you?" They know you care and your light shines bright.
Today would be a great day to call someone or take a few cookies by their house. May God bless you as you shine the light of concern in the lives of others.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear God; You have protected, provided, and guided me in your path. You genuinely care for me and you KNOW me. Please help me to show concern and to get to know others. Help me to be a friend especially to those who do not have a friend in life. I love you, Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN!
