16. Write down thoughts and inspirations - Psalm 16:8
Psalm 16:8 - I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
When my troubles seem dark my thinking sometimes goes black. The other night I was feeling sorry for myself and counting my sorrows while sitting at my desk. As dark thoughts and feelings flooded across my mind one hit me like a slap in the face.
“Nobody likes you,” slipped into my head. I sat up straight.
That’s not true. I started recounting people who were my friends and who have shown their love and concern for me. And, of course, God loves me. He sent Jesus to die for my sins and give me abundant life in him. I know that “nobody likes me” is a lie.
Where did that come from? How did a lie get in there? It came from the “Father of lies”. It came from Satan. He often tries to inject his lies into our thinking, especially when we are troubled or thinking dark thoughts. For some people his lies will take them to the point of depression or even suicide. But I recognized that lie and shook off the dark thinking.
I began to read scripture verses that were encouraging and uplifting. In my mind I said, “Get behind me, Satan!” The dark thoughts and gloom began to fade. I grabbed a note pad and started jotting down all the beautiful slogans, quotes, and sayings that would help bring light into the darkness. Then I started writing down some scripture references that I could use the next time Satan tried to sneak his lies into my thinking. Here are just a few for you too:
Psalm 34:8,19; 37:4; 90:17; 103:2-6; 121:1-2;
Proverbs 3:5-6; 16:3;
1 Peter 5:7;
1 John 4:4
There are, of course, many more.
It helps to write things out. There is something about your brain opening up and your hand moving across a page that is therapeutic. Writing down beautiful things makes your heart sing and your worries and anxieties fade (Ph 4:8). And it is a good way to get Satan out of your head.
May God bless you today as you fill your heart and mind with beautiful things. Make sure to write them down. You may consider starting a beautiful thoughts journal.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Beautiful Savior; Thank you for the wonders of your creation, the beauty of heaven, and your glorious presence in my life. Help me to focus on the good things and fill my heart, mind, and note pad with the beautiful things that combat the dirty lies Satan tries to use to defeat me. Thank you for Jesus and his atoning blood. It is in his name that I pray, AMEN!
